We are the only women-focused research centre and strongly believe that research that captures Somali women’s perspective can amplify their voices and influence policy-making. SWSC conducts surveys and data collection targeting population at our areas of operation in Somalia.
In 2017, SWSC carried out a CARE funded mapping and capacity needs assessment for local women organizations operating in Kismayo. The survey profiled 20 women led organizations (16 CBOs, 4 NGOs) working to address women and girls’ rights across the 5 districts of Kismayo (Alanley, Gulwade, Shaqalaha, Fanole and Farjano). Findings from the survey advised capacity building training for CSOs in gender equality & women empowerment and advocacy.
SWSC has also participated in surveys mapping needs of Somali women (see “What other organizations said about us” section on the website, link to published studies SWSC has participated)
